Mohamed Farah’s Short Verses -Poem

  1. Long days passed me, but it was like yesterday
  2. Moving cross-way, I still and all wish my heyday
  3. Days running on a pathway, my age went mislay
  4. I moved away of my birthday, came closer to grey
  5. On journey of making life, Somaliland stood for strive
  6. And aimed its people to survive, all theirs to revive
  7.  For the past decades, we were under peaceful shades
  8. Without external aids and pairs, we reached our aims.

OOHINTA YAXAASKA (CROCODILE TEARS)

Waxaan maqli jiray oohinta yaxaaska!!!!. Waa odhaah caan ah oo loo adeegsado dadka oohin beenaadka sameeya ama loo yaqaan hasha geela cunta ee cabaada. Yaxaasku waxa keliya oo uu ilmeeyaa marka uu raq cunayo ee uu boganayo dheregtiisa. Hadaba iminka dal keena waxa ku batay oohinta yaxaaska oo ay ku sifoobeen dadka horumar diidka ah. Qaar aad run ka moodayso waxay ka cabanayaan ayaa kuu sheegaya inay rabaan in wax loo dhiibo oo qudha oo aanay lahayn damac intaa sii ridanba. Sheekadu waa OOHINTA YAXAASKA.

SAXAAFADA SOMALILAND WAA QALIN GABAY XILKIISII

Waxaan waagii hore raali ka ahaa saxaafada maxaliga ah kuwaas oo aan hore ugu yeedhay ''Gaadhhayaha Dalka''. Waxay kasoo weedhay inaan iminka garwaaqsaday saluuga ay ka muujiyeen shacabku saaxafadan seeto beelka ah. Waxa sida dharaartii ah inay saxaafadeenu u xuubsiibatay haanraawe hilbo qaad ah oo ka abaaday xilkasnimo. Qalinkii u cuntanaa inuu xigmad iyo xog u baahiyo maan-gaashaysan waxa uu isu dooriyey inuu mariideeyo maskaskeena.
Waxa ku dhacay abaar cilmiyeed caydhna ka ah mabaadiida fekerka iyo anshaxa warbaahinta. Waxay ka gudubtay xadkii iyo xayndaanbkii sababta u ahaa inuu qofku ahaado xilkas. Aadamuhu waxay xildhibaano ahaadeen markii WAAQWEYNE ku manaystay xis iyo garaad ay ku xaqiiqsadaan xilka saaran iyo xadka ay gaadhsiisan tahay xoriyada la siiyey. Saaxafada maantu waxay ku dacwiyaan xoriyada feker cabirka iyadoo aanay xasuusnayn xariiqaha aan la dhaafin ee uu manacayo xukunka EEBE, xiskeena iyo xeerarka dalku. Maanta waxaan ugu yeedhayaa inay yihiin ''Saxaafad Xis La'aan Ah''.
Xukuumada waxaan kula talin lahaa inay xeerar adag ku seetayso saxaafada Somaliland. Waxa loo baahan yahay dhismaha xoog dawlihi ah kaas xakameeya qalinkan gabay xilkiisii.

UAE Military Base Boosts Berbera International Trade Hub and Somaliland-Ethiopia's Relations and Economic Growth

On 12 February 2017, the government of Somaliland accepted the formal application of the U.A.E. seeking permission from the Somaliland government to open a military base in Berbera. This application followed the 440 million dollar investment and a 30-year contract for UAE’s international ports operator, DP World, of which it takes a 65% stake in the project while the Somaliland government to own the rest.

The UAE military base in Berbera has attracted the attention of Somaliland’s friendly ally – Ethiopia. This article discloses the fact that the base will be used to secure multimillion dollar investment of DP World, which will run the Berbera port for 30 years, with an automatic 10-year extension if it wishes.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DP World chairman, said “Investment in this natural deep-water port will attract more shipping lines to East Africa and its modernization will act as a catalyst for the growth of the country and the region’s economy”. The UAE presence in Berbera will contribute to the economic growth of both Ethiopia and Somaliland as confirmed by Sultan of DP World, including a long waited road connecting Berbera port free trade zone to Ethiopia.

As Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire, Somaliland’s Foreign Minister, confirmed the military base will just be utilized for interests and geopolitical importance of Somaliland allies. The unconditional brotherly support and diplomatic sustains of Ethiopia since 1988 is never to be erased from the memory of Somaliland citizens. The incumbent president, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud (Silanyo), and next president, Muse Bihi Abdi, both have never ever forgotten the historic relationship with Ethiopia and they will never accept to use Somaliland shores for militarization purposes against Ethiopia. They have maintained a strong connection with Ethiopian government, advanced diplomacy and security of both countries, recognized Ethiopia’s continuing and unrelenting support to Somaliland. Somaliland contributes to Ethiopia’s’ GDP by importing Khat crop, spending large percentage of its foreign currency. Somaliland reportedly spends $500 million US dollar a year.

The UAE and Somaliland governments agreed to establish a base with security personnel that will protect Berbera port and shipments in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, aimed to tackle piracy and safeguard their investments in Berbera. Improved security of Berbera trade hub will attract international shipping lines to trade with Africa through Somaliland-Ethiopian trade route. This will open a window of opportunity for the Ethio-Somaliland economic and diplomatic relationship that is cherished by the two countries for decades.

President of Somaliland spoke to the parliament, ”the military base would benefit Somaliland most and help create jobs”. As António Guterres, UN Secretary General, said in his speech on Jan 20, 2017, it is essential to address youth unemployment to prevent instability, social conflicts, and violent extremism. The world organizations have been spending millions of dollars a year to create jobs for youth because it has been globally understood that employment of youth can significantly reduce the number of youth commit to crimes. Improved youth employment in Somaliland and Ethiopia will considerably decrease level of crimes and fragility in the east African region.
Blackmailing rumor has been circling around local media in both countries, portraying that the Cairo government stands behind the deal of the Berbera UAE base. It’s a just baseless gossip generated by anti-development protesters and deceptive politicians. As the matter of fact, the truth exposes that there is no Egyptian-UAE joint venture in Berbera at all. The people of Somaliland know how the government of Cairo is suffocating Somaliland independence while Somaliland-Ethiopian relations have been blossoming since 1991 and that Ethiopia is the only key ally of Somaliland globally. Similarly, UAE is a good ally of Somaliland economically as Somali merchants have been ever using Dubai port as their only international trade center. The decision of engaging UAE to the Berbera port was wisely taken by the incumbent president, Silanyo, and next president, Muse Bihi, with the support of Mohamud Hashi Abdi, Minister of Presidential Affairs, and parliament members.
Minister of Presidential Affairs is one of the most senior politicians compared to the incumbent president Silanyo and next president Muse Bihi. He is equipped with strong experience in Somaliland politics and the region. He was one of the key officials of SNM – he lived in Ethiopia in the 1980s; first mayor of Burao, as a charismatic parliament member in 1990s, former Minister of Civil Aviation and Air Transport. His remarkable background in politics uplifted his recognition of the importance of Ethiopian-Somaliland relations.

UAE base in Berbera will further enhance collaboration and integration of Somaliland- Ethiopian communities as movements of trade and bilateral opportunities would rise to the peak. Somaliland will not allow others to harm its key ally – Ethiopia. Muse Bihi, the next president, is a symbolic figure that cannot accept Egyptians and others to threaten security in the region.
Together, Ethiopia and Somaliland maintained a good relationship to combat terrorism, piracy, and instability in the region. Kulmiye party has shown to defend its border with Ethiopia to launch any terrorist confrontations towards its ally and the incumbent President Silanyo tried to establish better relations with Ethiopia.

Deterioration of Berbera- Wajaale road has remained a challenge to Ethiopia’s uses of Berbera port for decades. Currently accepted UAE investment of Berbera will pave the way of building Berbera Corridor thereby Ethiopia would swiftly use the trade way for military and civilian shipments without prior control. The two brotherly countries reached this moment to realize their dreams of benefiting Berbera Corridor, which will be principal trade route for Ethiopia’s imports and exports.
The flourishing investments in Somaliland will require utilizing Ethiopia’s hydroelectric power – the important and available power lines at the Ethiopian-Somaliland border, and Kulmiye government puts its foremost political agenda to benefit Ethiopians’ electricity.

However, it is obvious that there is animosity against the concrete Ethio-Somaliland relations that has been growing up strongly. It’s an envy escalating propaganda to breakaway Somaliland from Ethiopia. Backed by Mohamud Hashi, Minister of Presidential Affairs, the incumbent president, Silanyo, and next president, Muse Bihi, are committed to advance closer ties with Ethiopia as means of political, trade and investment without a sense of compromise.

In conclusion, Somaliland and Ethiopia should avoid establishing any crack in their historic relationship: practically, it means both governments to understand destructive propaganda pursuing to go back to the past. Ethiopia and Somaliland laid solid foundations of building peace and stability in the region, it has required them to deepen their security relations by building new strategies to deal with security threats against their common interests and regional stability. To improve the capacity of Somaliland security institutions, Ethiopia should continue their support of building Somaliland’s military and police and to set up cross-border security measures among them.

Regarding current UAE base in Berbera, the two countries should set up special task force among them; as its common entity to work together to provide think-tank on their common security threats. Advancing Somaliland and Ethiopian trade and investment, next president of Somaliland, Muse Bihi, should come up an effective strategy to make sure free and fair uses of Berbera Trade Hub for the Interest of Ethiopia and Africa in general.

MY POEM TO DEFINE DEVELOPMENT

  • Development is a thing to be made
  • It’s a matter to be planted by our hand
  • Wealth of nations rise through trade
  • It’s just trading of resources in our land
  • Progress does not ever arise by aid
  • As overseas relief is a disgrace bland
  •  And foreign ideas malformed into fade
  • It’s required to ripen resources in our sand
  • Development stems from efforts to be paid.

WAXA DHACAY ABAARAHA OONKA IYO WAAYAHA

''Xasuuso Nebi Yusuf (CSW) Waxa uu Dalka Masar Ka Badbaadiyey 7 Sano oo Abaar Xidhiidh ah''

Waxa dhacay abaar duug ma reebto ah taas oo halaagtay meerisyada xoolaha aynu intificaacsano, ishin iyo adhiba, kuwaas oo badiba dabar go'ay. Waa dhacay saranreer biyo' iyo baad la'aaneed oo surmi iyo surbacaad ku afwaajay saqiir iyo waayeelba. Waxa jira seben xumaad, hawguba darnaadeed Sool iyo Sanaag bari, kaas oo aafeeyey umadii kana yeelay inay xeryo madhan ka joogaan soof xoolaad. Dhulkii wuu gasariirmay waxaana gadaamay midhif iyo siigo abaareed, waxaana soogsoogmay geed waynkii lagu eeran jiray si looga hadhsado suudhiga iyo golcasta cadceeda, halka geed gaabkiina isu dooriyey dumaa bagagi ah. Suuf darnaanta baahida iyo sabarka gaajaysan waxa u weheliya dayro-dhaafka dhaxameed oo halakeeyey jabad kasta. Dhaxanta iyo gaajaadu waxay cimri gaabni iyo naxash guridii u jeheeyeen maatadii awelba u nuglaa dhibaatooyinka deegaan iyo daruufaha culus. Nafla-caarigii waxa lagu caymaday meel kasta oo sugaan loo fishay laakiin goob walba waxa suulka iyo socod ku gelgelimeeyey dad iyo duunyo maanyo ah. Carcararkii iyo geedigii hadba geyi loo dheemaalayey ayaa geyeysiiyey xoolahii inay ku le'daan gawaano cidla ah. Maantana afkaa wax la geliyo ayaa ah gariimad ku adkaatay inay gooyaan dadkeenii gurmad EEBE mooyaane.

Eebe waa xaakim xaq lagu caabudo wuxuuna aadamaha samaha ugu xejiyaa wanaag halka colka iyo abaartuna la xidhiidhaan xumaha aynu falnay. Abaarahan soo noqnoqday waxa u sabab ah talo seeg iyo solinwaa jidka WAAQWEYNE u suntay inaynu ku wada sugnaano. Hadaan u gunda dego, waxa jira nac-wayn iyo warmo dhiigleh oo ka wardhawraya inta roob da'ayo si ay isu warjaafaan markay soo doogaan sida Ceelefweyn, Laascaanood, Taleex iyo Buuhoodle, WAAQWEYNENA wuu rafacay raxmadiisii.

Abaartan duugma reebtada ah waxa u dawo ah dulqaad iyo dariiqada EEBE oo loo soo noqdo, ducada iyo duraamasha ILLAAHAY iyo ku dayasha dedaalkii Nebi Yusuf (CSW) uu kaga dabaashay abaartii ku dhacday dhulka Masar 7 sano oo xidhiidh ah.

FRIENDSHIP SUPERSEDES CLANSHIP

Have you ever met a friend of life and outburst irresistible and profound laugh when you remembered mistakes you did when you were kids? You were soul-mate friends shared secrets, preferred to walk with each other in the toughest journey of life, faced controversy and heyday ages – respect and trust – with deep friendship that may go into ‘’godparent of one’s children’’?

Have you ever wondered when the ‘’Concept of Clan’’ separates two friends  who shared everything; except ‘’ love of same girl in one time’’: friends lived like one soul in two bodies, who had been living together since when they were born, grew side by side, and have same spiritual inspiration that shaped their merits and how they view to the world?

However, because of the ‘’Bizarre of Tribalism’’, I wondered how delicate Concept of Clan can easily take apart tight friends, whom everyone loved his friend before himself, in our society,

I would sincerely convey my pleading to everybody to give their highest attention that friendship should supersede belongingness of clanism which is one of the prime biases against humanity as it blocks someone from his friends, classmates, co-workers, friends, clients and even family members such as wife and relatives and society in general, followed by human right violations.

MY PEOM OF SONYO: TURNING THE NATION’S WHEEL IN TO WAY OF SUCCESS

*     Somaliland was turtle-like train targeting very far region
*     I was disbelieving this train to convey it’s desperate legion
*     I understood that the nation’s wheels were entirely missing
*     Hindering us to attain our progressive aims in the long listing
*     I saw disabled forces of youth refused to be in the leaders
*     Restricted them to be in the country’s footers not in the headers

*     SONYO is like tree producing golden fruits for our fragile nation
*     Inspiring youth to share dreams of leadership with sense of elation

*     I saw completely disappearing crops without replacing seed
*     Where rulers are going to pass away without legacy to weed
*     Disregarding our resourceful youth made me very pessimistic
*     But the gleaming light from SONYO changed us into optimistic

*     SONYO is like tree producing golden fruits for our fragile nation
*     Inspiring youth to share dreams of leadership with sense of elation

*     SONYO turned our nation’s train from tortoise into hunting eagle
*     Aroused everyone to be along with the act of amending a legal
*     I saw enlightenment inducing aspects of changes to be in active
*     I feel steps forward awakening our youth to be freed from passive

*     SONYO is like tree producing golden fruits for our fragile nation
*     Inspiring youth to share dreams of leadership with sense of elation

*     I always wish out great GOD to bless Somaliland with his kind
*     Providing excellent choices based on the fortunes in our mind
*     I saw mounting consequences  flourished from intellectual order
*     I thank our GOD for guiding them to revise the rule into not be older

*     SONYO is like tree producing golden fruits for our fragile nation
*     Inspiring youth to share dreams of leadership with sense of elation

Independent Media Prevents Spears from Our Slayers and Silanyo Slaughters It with Spiteful Swords

Mohamed Farah Abdi
I would like to thank Somaliland media for their marvelous and wonderful endeavors they exerted to make available detailed news, inspire civilians and enhance synergy and national feelings and demonstrate perspectives reflecting public perceptions. And my heartfelt grateful will specifically go to the independent media for their valuable inputs they contributed to our young and fragile nation where they had advocated rights of the victim and bravely confronted oppressions from tyranny members. It’s undisputable that our democratic media played a prominent role in the protection of our constitution and bylaws and the endorsement of our sovereignty across the world. The independent media is the principal pillar of democratic principles which comprising more of the following:
* Autonomous media (freedom of speech)
* Effective rule of law
* Vibrant civil society
* Human rights protection
* Free and fair elections

Free and fair election is just one of the wider spectrums of democratic principles. It’s an obligatory for Somaliland to utilize all democratic principles to attain sphere standards of democracy indicated by international laws and resolutions from large-scale conventions in which independent Media and freedom of speech is given the main concern.

Although Somaliland has achieved democratic elections and stability which appreciated by international communities; however, this progress still needs immediate improvement. The progress is being challenged by current measures taken by Silanyo’s authority as it suffocated independent media – greatest pillar of democracy. Independent media is the most powerful means of country’s transformation into developed and peaceful society where socio-economic and geo-political growth is accelerated. Independent media is an eyewitness in opposition to the corruption, nepotism and human rights biases and violations against law. As a matter of fact, it has more influential and supremacy; in particular, it backed President Silanyo to come to the throne, but their aim was to seek good life for our children and mothers dying of hunger and to fulfill our long-term mission such as to achieve international recognition. Conversely, while our independent media is inspired to defend our country from the wicked enemies, Silanyo has taken catastrophic measures to throttle them.

Within the first six months of the rule, Silanyo’s authority sentenced, prosecuted and threatened independent media players. This indicates sense of irresponsibility and lack of tolerance in which majority of political analysts believed that Kulmiye leadership has no experience. Intimidation against the independent media will be a dreadful sign  of smashing the main democratic principle which is freedom of speech. Limited freedom of speech will authentically hinder us to achieve our vision, and it will undermine our reputation in the world where we want an immediate recognition. Current menace will diminish the expectations among the earnest civilians who have been waiting better life for the last decades. Moreover, this will come up legacy of dictatorship and infringing the constitution and orders.

Media is not above the law and it can be prosecuted through legal procedures. Somaliland has a typical media law which is germane to the international media laws. This law was developed and signed in 2004 when it was started to officially put into practice. Nonetheless, the current authority did not take into account the implementation of this law in the trials against the individuals from independent media, and it was used criminal law which is forbidden from them and media in general. For that reason, Silanyo has broken our constitution and national bylaws. He ensured that his goal was just to come to the throne and he was not honest for his promises towards the freedom of speech during his campaigning period.  The broken democratic principles and bylaws may minimize our chance to join to global communities and receive their acceptance, and may also demolish governmental institutions – creating anarchy like the Somalia.

Horrible acts against independent media, breaking national laws and lack of sense of tolerance will weaken our optimism from the new elected authority. It’s very crucial to take in to practice our media law. And I want to recommend Silanyo’s authority to mainstream media in the building of democratic principles, regard media as the central place of country’s development and keep country’s democratic reputation. In contrast, I am sincerely recommending independent media to strengthen solidarity, improve their capacity and apply ethics. They should avoid any form of information which may rise chaos and threaten our fragile peace and statehood.
